Performance Celebrates Tony Rios’ 23 Year Anniversary

At Performance, we know that our success is a testament to our talented team’s dedication and hard work every day. That’s why celebrating a remarkable employee milestone is always special. Today, we are thrilled to honor Tony Rios, who has reached an extraordinary landmark: 23 years with our company. Let’s take a moment to reflect on his incredible journey.

What initially attracted you to join Performance, and how has your perception of it evolved over the past 20+ years?

Initially, I knew a group of people who had left a startup that I was also working for at the time to start working at Performance back in 2001. My colleagues and I had sort of followed each other to other tech/ aerospace companies throughout our career, so when one of them recommended me to Tim Bigelow, Performance’s founder, for an interview in 2001, I took it and was hired in June of 2001. I’ve been with Performance ever since, 23 years this year.

What roles have you held at Performance?

When I started, we were a much smaller company, and my role primarily focused on software needs for projects related to one of our primary clients (Integration, Validation lab support, etc.). As the company grew, I was asked to become a Team Manager, leading discussions on career development, project placement, performance reviews, and more. I also led recruiting initiatives, attended job fairs, and established hiring efforts for our Philippines office.

Later, I was tasked with developing a Certified Quality Management System (QMS). Starting in 2011, I worked with a consultant and various departments to tailor the procedures to our business model, achieving our first AS9100 Certification in 2013. The role of Quality Manager eventually fell under my responsibilities. To maintain our certification, we undergo regular audits by a 3rd party certification company. Alongside this, I continue to assist with other engineering project operations as needed.

Reflecting on your journey with us, what are some key milestones or memorable moments that stand out to you?

I would say that as the company grew, helping fill any need was very rewarding for me as well as  playing a big role in obtaining our AS9100 Certification. I was never hung up on what I did for the company, I just wanted to add value as a reliable resource.

Can you share some lessons or insights you’ve gained from your experiences here over the past 20+ years?

Over the years, I’ve developed the ability to effectively work with diverse personalities and adapt my approach to get the best out of each individual. This agility in dealing with different types of people has become one of my most important skills.

What aspects of your role do you find most fulfilling?

Being recognized as someone who is always approachable for help or advice

What advice would you offer to new employees based on your extensive experience and knowledge of our company?

ASK QUESTIONS! Be diligent in trying to understand what you’re working on so the person you ask questions knows you did your homework.

Always strive to be someone who can be approached and is objective.

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations or goals for the future, both personally and professionally?

Continue to be seen as a valuable and approachable resource, always ready to assist and fulfill any needs.

Finally, what does reaching this milestone mean to you, and how do you plan to celebrate this achievement?

It speaks volumes about the company, the team, and the culture we’ve built. I take great pride in my contributions and in being a vital part of what Performance is today.

Tony Rios’ contributions at Performance have been pivotal to our success.  We look forward to many more years of shared achievement and camaraderie with you on our team Tony!
