Performance Celebrates Isaac’s 20 Year Anniversary

This month, we’re celebrating a major milestone — Isaac Haddox is celebrating 20 years with Performance Software! From his very first project on the 787 to seeing the 777X program through to handoff, Isaac has spent two decades tackling some of the toughest technical challenges in avionics software, all while mentoring the next generation of engineers along the way.

We sat down with Isaac to talk about his journey, the lessons learned along the way, and what keeps him motivated after 20+ years.

What initially attracted you to join Performance, and how has your perception of it evolved over the past 20+ years?

When I graduated with a bachelor’s in computer science, I wasn’t sure which area of software I wanted to pursue. Gaming sounded interesting, but it was incredibly competitive. I didn’t know much about avionics software at the time, but I interviewed with Performance and got the job.

A few years in, I realized how much I enjoyed the pace of the work. I also appreciated that Performance gave me the chance to move between projects and customers, which kept things interesting. The way the company operates has always worked well for me, and I’ve been happy here ever since.

What roles have you held at Performance?

I’ve mostly stayed in technical roles throughout my projects. I’ve tried a few short stints in management, but it isn’t where my interests lie. Whenever I can, I seek out the most challenging technical problem on a project and dig into it.

Reflecting on your journey with us, what are some key milestones or memorable moments that stand out to you?

Completing the first round of work on the 787, my very first project, was a big deal for me. Handing off the 777X project was another highlight. Both programs took around five years, so it was rewarding to see them reach the finish line. I worked with great teams on both, and I feel we added a lot of value.

Can you share some lessons or insights you’ve gained from your experiences here over the past 20+ years?

Since this is my 20-year anniversary, I’ll focus on longevity: it’s a marathon, not a sprint. If you feel yourself getting burned out, you have to take action to correct it, or you will burn out. You decide how much you get done and when you stop, so push hard when you need to and relax a bit when you can.

What aspects of your role do you find most fulfilling?

Solving a difficult problem alongside a team of smart people is one of my favorite things.

What advice would you offer to new employees based on your extensive experience and knowledge of our company?

If you’re unsure about something or stuck, ask the more experienced engineers. We may be busy, but most of us enjoy talking through problems and brainstorming solutions. Many of us genuinely love teaching, and we learn a lot from younger engineers too.

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations or goals for the future, both personally and professionally?

I tend to take things as they come rather than plan too far ahead. As long as I keep my health and my mental sharpness, I’ll be happy with whatever comes next.

Where do you plan on taking your 20-year anniversary trip?

I haven’t decided yet. The weather is finally getting really nice here, so for now I’m looking forward to enjoying things around town.

Finally, what does reaching this milestone mean to you, and how do you plan to celebrate this achievement?

It wasn’t something I planned for or thought much about. It just kind of happened, but it’s pretty cool. I’ll probably celebrate with a nice dinner.

Isaac’s 20-year journey is a testament not just to his individual dedication, but to the kind of culture that makes people want to build their careers here. His drive to tackle the hardest technical problems, his generosity in mentoring younger engineers, and his steady, “marathon-not-a-sprint” approach to the work continue to leave a lasting impact on Performance Software and our customers. We’re grateful for his expertise, his willingness to teach, and the countless contributions he’s made along the way. Congratulations, Isaac, on 20 years—and thank you for everything you’ve brought to the team!
